Help for Market Overview

The Markets Overview page summarizes how the market indexes are performing over multiple time frames, and it tracks accumulation and distribution in the three major indexes.

Accumulation and distribution are daily measures of the strength of the markets. A day is considered to be an accumulation day when an index closes up in price on volume that is higher than the prior day. It is considered a distribution day when the index closes down in price on volume that is higher than the previous day.

The table on the Market Overview page indicates when a day is an accumulation or distribution day, and displays how many of each type of day have occurred over the last two weeks. A series of four or five distribution days over a two-week period can signal a need for caution.
